Robinson Asphalts has a well-established and successful Health & Safety System, which encompasses all aspects of workplace Health & Safety. Our system has achieved ISO 45001 (Health and Safety Management Systems) certification, in addition to ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental).
In addition to our triple ISO accreditation, we consistently achieved SiteWise gold status, scoring 97%, 94% and 97% respectively for the last three years. Our system also maintained ACC Tertiary Accreditation consistently from 2005 to 2019 when this accreditation programme ceased.
All staff undergo extensive induction and training, and all of our staff are Fist Aid and SiteSafe trained. Safety has been adopted as an integral part of everyday work operations. This is reinforced by an ongoing programme of annual health monitoring checks for all employees to ensure their continued wellbeing whilst in the company's employment. Robinson Asphalts currently hold a Whangarei District Council Health and Safety Approved Contractor Certificate.
Robinson Asphalts consistently provide you with a quality and environmentally sound product and as such is extremely proud of its workmanship, service and reputation for providing the best to clients. The company strives for excellence in every aspect of its business. Quality is managed via an integrated Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System (HSQE). Our HSQE system has achieved three separate ISO Certifications:
- ISO 45001 – Health and Safety Management Systems
- ISO 14001 – Environmental Management Systems
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems
A detailed Project Management Plan is implemented for each project in accordance with contractual requirements. Any problems which may arise are dealt with and rectified promptly. Your satisfaction as a client is our number one priority.
In addition to best industry practices, we also implement several initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment:
- We use Ecotricity as our power provider, the only CarbonZero certified supplier in New Zealand
- When we can’t re-use timber, our waste timber gets used as a carbon neutral biofuel via Northland Waste’s Re:Fuel programme
- When we lay our own asphalt we use a cold bitumen product called Enviro Tack, which uses up to 40% water - it's safer, uses less harmful chemicals and creates less carbon emissions. Standard Bitumen (commonly used for roads) has a higher percentage of bitumen and uses kerosene and diesel instead of water.
- We use individual recycling bins for plastics, glass, office paper and cardboard to recycle as much as possible

In 2014, at the NZCF Construction Awards, Alan and Annie Johnston were both made life-members of NZCF Northland for their contribution to the branch, Federation and the industry spanning more than 20 years. Annie is the first female to be honoured with life membership in Northland.
